2. Here's This Months Outcome Focus Situation/Solution
=========================================================

HOW TO CHANGE A NEGATIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

SITUATION: You have several cases of burnout due to two reasons:
one) heavy workload with high stress, and two) poor treatment by the
staff.
Now I am assuming by what you wrote that your word "staff" refers to the
psychiatrists and supervisors. If I am wrong with that assumption please
let me know.

The situation gets worse each day as the work quality declines and the
criticism increases.

OUTCOME DESIRED: You would like to create a work place that has a
positive
and proactive environment. You want to stop the burnout and increase the
work quality. In order to do this you already asked if you could get in
touch with an external office for advice. The head of the department has
forbidden you to take any action in this direction and has said if you
continue you will be declared ill.

OTHER PERSON'S PERSPECTIVE: The supervisors just want the work done
properly.
At this point they may feel discouraged themselves and not sure how to
increase the productivity. They may also feel burned and feel frustrated
that they can't get the situation changed. The supervisors may also feel
intimidated about talking to the psychiatrists if they have noticed the
behavior as well.

BEST APPROACH: In this situation you want to approach your supervisor at
time when you feel optimistic so your body language and words say upbeat.
Focus not on why things are happening the way they are but on HOW YOU
WOULD
LIKE TO CHANGE THINGS. So you would say something like this, "Mary, I
know we work with a lot of stressful situations every day and it can wear
on all of us. I also realize that the more mistakes that are made the
more
frustrating it is for all the supervisors. I would like to brainstorm on
ways we can improve the communication in the office, reduce errors and
make work more fun because the more we all enjoy work the more we can
produce for you. Do you have any ideas of what we can do to create
that atmosphere?"

Then listen to her. I would try to get a committee set up that could
generate ideas on how to improve the communication and attitude. Do not
try to point out certain people just try to focus on how much more
productive the team will be if you all work in a more cooperative and
appreciative atmosphere. If any one person feels singled out you will
just end up in a debate about WHY things are the way they are rather
than HOW to make changes.

If that doesn't work, then you really have to decide if you want to
remain in a place that is chewing up your spirit.

==========================================================

Top 10 Tips For Interviewing (Tip 1-6 last month, Tip 7-10 this month)

How to get the job you want, the position you desire!

TIP 7

Practice. Practice. Practice. I am forever surprised by people that tell
me they do best when they "wing" the interview. Why would you ever want to
"wing it' when you only have one hour to show how worth it is for them to
invest in a lifetime with you? You better show you are worth it.

TIP 8

Answer the real question, not the surface question. Always frame your
answer so it ties in to the skills needed for the job you are interviewing
for. Don't just answer the question and assume they will be able to see
the connection from your answer to the job you are interviewing for.

TIP 9

Develop your stories. You should have 5 stories that clearly show you
handle such things as leadership, team play and difficult situations.
These stories should be flawless so you don't stumble over words or get
tongue-tied. You will have enough of that when they though a zinger
question at you.

TIP 10

Remember that you are interviewing them just as much as they are
interviewing you. If you keep this in mind you will be less likely to act
nervous or desperate. Show them the value you bring to their organization
so they desire to have you on board.

If there's a problem analyze it, seek solution, implement, correct
